With the goal to replace the existing fifty-year-old hospital in the midst of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, a major medical campus, the design team kept the newest patient tower of five towers and expanded it with a completed cross plan configuration. This enabled all new ancillaries to be adjacent to “like” departments and established an all private, 400 bed facility.
