The University Housing Office serves as a welcome center for prospective students to the University of Arkansas. The new building consolidates all the housing services dedicated to the current residents and their families. These services were previously located in numerous buildings around campus.
The University Housing Office is located on Douglas Avenue, directly adjacent to the Garland Street Parking Garage and the University Bookstore. The new two story office building houses forty (40) private offices, five (5) open office areas, and four (4) large meeting rooms. There are also a number of “touchdown” spaces spread throughout the building that emphasize an open and social environment.
The material palette of the building incorporates zinc panels, modular brick, and aluminum curtainwall and storefront systems. The zinc panels and glass curtainwalls emphasize the public areas of the building on both the south and east sides of the building. On the interior, two open stairways comprised of steel and glass provide multiple points of access to all areas of the building. The building was designed to LEED standards and some of the key attributes include: extensive use of natural light and views, daylight harvesting system, water efficient landscaping, and low emitting materials.
