PSW in association with BKD Creative, completed the remodel and construction of Mercy Children’s Hospital in Springfield, MO. The remodel consisted of updating of the facade, new windows and curtain wall system, new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, new covered patient drop off and pick up location, new two-story entrance indicating patient access, new patient discharge elevator for patient convenience, and North and South child friendly courtyards with playful, colorful sculpture.
First floor construction included:
• St. Jude, 7,870 sf – 5 exam rooms, open oncology space, art room living room, teen cave, nurses’ station, doctors’ offices and support areas including Child Life Specialists
• Food Service, 500 sf – Child friendly, self-serving ice cream, deli sandwiches and healthy snacks
• Retail Space, 500 sf – Offers a variety of gifts, games, toys, clothes, cards and balloons
• Teddy Bear Club, 2,000 sf – 4 spacious classrooms and support services for education on Lamaze, pregnancy, childbirth, breast feeding and more
• Resource Area, 600 sf – Wi-Fi capabilities with computer stations for research and educational support
Second floor construction included:
• Demolition of second floor to prepare for 9,000 sf of Pediatric Outpatient Test and Treatment
• 1,000 sf for support services and Child Life Services
