The Historic Arkansas Museum (formerly Arkansas Territorial Restoration) strives to encompass a replication of life in Arkansas’ territorial era. History from this time period is found in the restoration of the buildings located on the museum’s grounds. A Master Plan was developed for renovating and expanding the existing 14,000 square foot museum which acknowledges the importance of the alley in neighborhood life. The new lobby, constructed of heavy timbers and faced with butt glazing, is oriented along the alley and functions as the transition between the Territorial Restoration buildings and the Museum.
The design provides 12,300 square feet of Exhibition Galleries, constructed of heavy timber frames and wood siding which offer opportunities for suspended exhibits. Also included in the project are 6,400 square feet of Education/Research facilities and 24,800 square feet of Museum Support spaces, Gift Shop, Coffee Shop and Administrative Areas.
