Working under the guidance of lead designer Ennead Architects (formerly Polshek Partnership), Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects led and managed the local team of architects and engineers on this significant project documenting the Presidency of William Jefferson Clinton. The bridge-like form resembles the Six Bridges that span the Arkansas River, and metaphorically acts as a “Bridge to the 21st Century”.
Located within a 25-acre public park along the south bank of the Arkansas River, formerly an industrial site of old warehouses and undeveloped space, the complex maximizes public park acreage, responds to its riverfront location, connects downtown Little Rock with North Little Rock, and preserves an historic railroad passenger station and railroad bridge.
The main building is elevated above ground level, allowing the park to flow beneath. Principal spaces include permanent and temporary exhibitions, education and media center, and cafe. The archive is linked to the main building and includes research and collection storage facilities.
