Plans to Convert Historic Winchester Building into New Little Rock Office

Posted February 25, 2019

Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects (PSW), one of Arkansas’s premier architectural and interior design firms, has purchased the historic Winchester Building located at the corner of 8th and Spring streets to be the new home for their Little Rock office.

Constructed in 1947 by Dennis and Maude Winchester as the Winchester Auto Store, the building displays the characteristic features of the Art Moderne style. Recognized as a rare example of this architectural style in downtown Little Rock, it has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. PSW plans to transform the historic building into an open studio office that will enhance the firm’s collaboration and creativity.

“Having occupied several areas of the city since PSW’s inception over forty years ago, our new location just south of the Financial Quarter brings us full circle back downtown,” stated Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects Principal Wesley Walls, “This two-story art deco structure, sitting proud on the street corner, proved to be well-suited for adoption by our firm. The exterior façade will be restored to its original character, and the interior will be transformed to house a modern workplace environment for our design firm. To be clear, this is much less about an investment in a building than it is in our people, our culture, and our mission to help transform the places where we live, work, worship and play. We’re excited about the future of Little Rock and are proud to be part of the continuing transformation of our city’s urban core.”

The firm will relocate from their existing office in Riverdale (2222 Cottondale Lane) to its new home in downtown Little Rock by October 2019. East Harding Construction is the General Contractor.
